188 Piano Sonatas, 94 Tracks with 2 indices each
188 stitching- and embroidery patterns of the sewing machine "Pfaff 1475 CD" were scanned and converted into corresponding note values by the computer. The motion of the needle defines the pitch, the intervals between the stitches the rhythm. Via MIDI the sequences thus created controlled an Ensoniq Performance Sampler.
The input of the microphone is digitalised by the computer, read into the main memory of the sewing machine and thus determines the motion of the fabric and the sewing needle. The resulting pattern resembles an amplitude-time-diagram of the digital sound recording.
